Monterey Park Police Suffer Tragic Loss

On August 8, 2022, Monterey Police suffered the tragic and mind-numbing loss of Officer Gardiel Solorio. Officer Solorio was gunned down in a parking lot while off-duty, and it is still unclear what was the motivating factors in his death.

"Although his time with (the department) was very short, we all knew from the moment we met him that he had the heart of service and was going to be a great officer," said Chief Kelly Gordon.

The Monterey Park Police Officers Association is mourning Officer Solorio's loss alongside his family and friends. We are celebrating the life of a hero, trusted public servant, and dedicated family man.

Monterey Park Police Department hired Solorio as a police officer recruit on January 31. He was sent to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy in February and graduated on July 22. He was sworn in on July 23rd and began field training on July 25th.

Solorio was 26 years old and a California State University, Los Angeles graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He is survived by his mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters.
